Choose Your Roof Size
Pergolas are sized by roof length and width. For this first step, please assume roof length is the longer measurement and choose the size you'd like or the one closest to the size you'd like. A couple steps below, under Direction of Roof Supports, you'll can tell us which way you'd like your Pergola roof to be oriented.
Forever Redwood Pergolas come in two size groups: Small Pergolas (under 100 square foot roof) and Large Pergolas (over 100 square foot roof). Small Pergolas have 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" posts and 1 3/4" x 3 3/4" roof support timbers (lintels) and rafters. The Large Pergolas have 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" posts and 5 3/4" x 1 7/8" lintels and rafters.
The listed sizes are some of the most popular sizes we build. But, if you don't see the size you want, don't worry. Each Forever Redwood Pergola is handcrafted and we regularly custom size sets any size. If you have a special spot that needs a custom size or a custom design, we are here to help. If you'd like to get an idea of the cost for your sized project, choose the closest size in terms of square footage from the list and personalize the pergola with the options offered.

When you order a custom sized or custom designed Pergola from Forever Redwood, we will email you a set of drawings so you can make sure all measurements and details work for you prior to beginning construction. Garden Pergolas: Dimensions, Assembly & Shipping
Corner posts are 5 1/2" 5 1/2" and are recessed 12" in from roof dimensions (This can be adjusted to meet your needs— contact us).
Roof support timbers (lintels) and rafters are 1 7/8" x 5 3/4". If you prefer a different sizing or style, contact us.
Posts normally ship 9' long. 9' posts make the top of the roof 9' also and gives you 8' 4" clearance ("ceiling height") under the rafters. About 90% of our pergola customers go with the default 9' post height. If you'd like your pergola taller or shorter, just let us know or make a note in the special instructions box at checkout.
The maximum roof size is 20' in either direction with a 4 post structure. The maximum span (with the standard timber sizes mentioned above) is 18' 6" on center between posts. Structures over 20' in any direction are built with an additional posts to support roofs between 20 and 40 feet. For example, a 30' x 20' free standing pergola has 6 posts.
Forever Redwood Pergola kits are completely assembled in the shop prior to shipping to be certain everything fits together perfectly. All timbers are notched into one another to fit together tightly. There are hundreds of notches in the larger pergolas. Notching is a labor intensive process that results in a very strong "web effect" that distributes wind and weight stresses throughout the structure.
All assembly hardware is included and is stainless steel.

Pergola Assembly and Shipping
Assembly is best done by two people and usually takes about half a day to a day, depending on size. Take a look at our assembly instructions below for more specific details. If you plan to pour concrete, the project will require an additional half day prior to assembly to square the corners and let the concrete dry.
Pergolas ship in double cardboard boxes strapped to a crate. UPS Freight or another LTL carrier will call a day or two before delivery to set up a 4-hour delivery window. They will deliver the crate with a lift gate truck to your driveway. Once on your driveway, you can cut the straps and lift the individual boxes. If the trucking company shows up at your driveway unprepared with either no lift gate or no pallet jack, it's really not a big deal. Just cut the straps while the pallet is still on the truck and unload the boxes from the truck instead. The individual boxes are packaged under 100 pounds for ease of movement.

Local Delivery and Installation
We can deliver and install your pergola for an additional fee if you are in California. We can also go as far as South Arizona and into Nevada. Please email or call us, or if ordering online, just write in the comment section that you'd like help with the assembly or installation of your order. We will have our assembly team bring your pergola and assemble it on-site. Assembly/installation adds between 8 and 15% to the cost of your order (depending on size, complexity, and distance involved).
I received my shipment via UPS today. I cannot express how pleased I am with your redwood and service. First, the wood came very well packaged. Growing up in the moving and storage business, I know something about packaging and freight handling. Double cardboard protected, stapled and taped. Came coast to coast in flying colors. But most important, the redwood. All three boards, including the 2" x 12" x 12 feet! piece, are drop dead gorgeous. Tight grained, very dense, and knot free. Beautiful color.
